HES Unit (Household Economic Strengthening Program)

The HES Unit functions as a foundational pillar supporting livelihood activities across all SUWA projects. By April 2025, it had conducted 81 VSLA trainings, formed over 220 groups, and reached 5,872 individuals. Financial literacy training impacted 2,744 participants. HES also introduced standardization tools like the VSLA formation and monitoring guidelines and a dedicated SUWA VSLA Handbook. Success stories, such as that of Pauline Mangai in Jos, reflect increased income, diversified businesses, and stronger financial autonomy. Enhanced sustainability is achieved through the establishment of community forums, support volunteers, and use of mobile platforms like WhatsApp.

                        TESTIMONIALS

Pauline Mangai

"Pauline Mangai is my name, a member of Dynamic Village Savings and Loans Association, Sabon-Barki, Jos. Before joining   the VSLA, I was into selling of second-hand clothing My income was truly poor and also not consistent because of the volume of sales on daily bases. The people in my community prefer to eat food first before thinking of new clothes. After joining the VSLA, I decided to collect loan from my group, and added a new business line to my business. I started selling foodstuffs and other daily household needs such as firewood, charcoal etc. I am very happy now, because every day I make good sales. My income has greatly increased. I can now buy more shares and save more during our meetings."
